Page Load Time

Fast page load times are essential for any website really, especially business ones. We have all noticed how some websites are just really, really slow and how annoying that can be.

On top of that, Page speed has been a ranking factor on google ever since 2010 and according to Sean Work, 40% of people abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load.

It is simply devastating for your ranking, traffic, not to talk about the user experience if you have slow load times.

We have gone ahead and tested the speed of Bluehost’s website hosting plan from 6 different locations, across the globe:

Note: We used the Bluehost shared plan, with Europe as a server location.

Date UptimeResponse Time
December 2019100%582 ms
January 202099.98% 519 ms
February 2020 99.98% 537 ms
March 2020 100% 431 ms

Uptime: 99.99%

Uptime is among the most important merit when choosing and rating a web host.

Due to its importance, we have gone ahead and monitored their uptime during the span of 4 whole months. Bluehost seems to perform among

Bluehost 4-month average statistical uptime:

  • March 2020 average uptime: 100%
  • February 2020 average uptime: 99.98%
  • January 2020 average uptime: 99.98%
  • December 2019 average uptime 100%

To calculate this percentage into more understandable means, 99.99% uptime means that your website is down on average about 8 seconds per day or 56 seconds per week.

30-Day Money-back Guarantee

Obtaining the best deal possibly for web hosting can be difficult and normally means prepaying for a few months or even years at a time.

According to Bluehosts refund policy, they offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all of their available hosting plans.

This is what doesn’t fall under that guarantee:

  • You can only get refunds on the web hosting cost, not any other products like domains or other add-ons.
  • A $15.99 fee will be deducted if you received a free domain name in your plan.
  • Any requests after 30 days will not be refunded.

Before investing in any hosting plans from any provider ensure you are OK with the terms before signing your account up.

Customer Support

Bluehost offers 24/7 support via livechat, email and a ticket system. We tested their support by trying out their live chat on their website.

Overall they were slight delays between each reply, but overall, Sam was quite friendly and tried to answer our direct questions regarding a website builder and their DDOS protection. It was quite painful trying to gain information regarding their DDOS protection, I think because they are very secure regarding their server information they don’t reveal any of this.

I have also found we get the same result regarding server locations, they do not offer exact locations or IP addresses of their current servers.

Bluehost also has a huge archive of self-help articles, both short and comprehensive.

You can find the articles on their knowledgebase.
